About Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah (CKB) Commerce College

Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah (CKB) Commerce College, Jorhat was established on 6th February, 1965. It is one of the premier institutions imparting Commerce Education in the North East Region, and it is situated at the heart of Jorhat Town.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recogniszed by the University Grants Commission under section 2F and 12 B of the UGC Act 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2004.

Brief History:

Since its inception, the college was started with the vision of producing a good number of able commerce graduates to promote entrepreneurial activities and to shoulder various responsibilites in Trade, Industry and commerce and also to provide them with the opportunity to build up thier professional careers like Chartered Accountsm, Cost Accountants, M.B.A etc.

The college always remembers the remarkable sacrifice of a few enthusiastic founder teachers who took all pain to translate the dream of the college into reality. Under the leadership and able guidance of founder principal Madhab Chandra Chakrabarty as well as the sincere devotion of founder teachers Shri Dwijendra Nath Sarmah, Shri Anil Chandra Sarmah and Shri Khagendra Nath Sarmah Baruah Commerce education gradually flourished.

In 1974 the college was brought under the Deficit grant-in-aid system and the same year it was recognised by University Grants Commission. The Government of Assam from the year 2005 provincialises the college. The college started with only 130 students. Till today this college has produced more than 2500 graduates and most of them are well placed in society. Presently about 1000 students are studying in this college, moreover this college is having a dedicated teaching staff with 27 members.

In 2009-2010 the college has started Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) study center by offering Postgraduate courses. By offering postgraduate courses, the main aim of the college is to provide an opportunity to those who missed the earlier opportunity to pursue thier higher education.   

At this college has a rich library with more than 16000 books in addition to journals, magazines and newspapers.

At present the college offers major courses in Accountancy, Business Management, Banking & Monetary Management & Human Resource Management. Catering to the need of job-oriented courses for the students, the college introduced BBA courses under Dibrugarh University and other few UGC sponsored career oriented add on courses.

The college is also having a number of other facilities besides scope for extra-curricular activities. With the gaining popularity of Commerce Education it is hoped that this college will fulfill the needs and aspirations of the younger generation of the Region.  

Rules & Regulations at Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah (CKB) Commerce College, Jorhat:

  • Read the prospectus carefully for proper information
  • The last date of submission of application forms will be displayed on the notice board of the college
  • The selected candidates will have to pay all fees within the prescribed date. In case a student does not deposit fees by that date, his/her admission will be treated as cancelled
  • Students who cancel admission at any time for any reason shall haveto pay tuition fees & other fees for the whole session
  • No certificate of any kind will be issued unless full session fees are paid. Any amount paid by the student at the time of admission and later will not be refunded
  • All new entrants will have to enrol themselves in the university. A prescribed from for this purpose will be supplied by the college in due course of time or on the date prescribed by the university. Students who fail to fill in the form shall be responsible for any action taken by appropriate authorities
  • Students shall have to obey all the instructions of the principal. They will be answerable to him for their behaviour in general, both inside and outside the college.
  • Students found violating the rules of the college administration or behaving in an indisciplined manner will be expelled from the college.

    It will be presumed on admission that the students concerned and their parents and/or guardians have read and concurred with these rules

  • Students should be respectfully with all staff members at college and politely with their fellow students, including girls. Any act of disobedience, improper and discourteous exchange of words or indecent remarks, especially at girl students, is a punishable offence and will be viewed seriously
  • Students should make careful use of college books, room furniture, fans, laboratory equipment and college property in general. The cost of damage done to it would be recoverable from students either individually or collectively as the case may be
  • Only special notices shall be read out in the classroom, students, therefore, should see the notice board daily and keep themselves well informed about the various notices that may be put up there from time to time
  • No student shall send any information concerning the college for publication either to the press or elsewhere without prior approval of the Principal of the college, nor shall he/she approach the President or the C.K.B.C.C. Members except through the college Principal. Any breach of this rule may lead to outright expulsion of the student from the college
  • The students should not roam in corridors, or play during working hours or free classes, Instead, they should utilise the library and reading room facilities
  • Identity Card should be carried at all times
  • Smoking, gutka / paan chewing and ragging are strictly prohibited. Offenders are liable to face legal action
  • Students are prohibited from forming associations/organisations and from holding functions in the college without the prior permission of the Principal
  • Students are prohibited from organising welcome and farewell and other such function outside college premises. Violation shall attract severe disciplinary action
  • Any change of address must be notified to the college office immediately
  • For details of the curriculum refer to the syllabi of the Education Board/University, as the case may be
  • The students carry the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness on the campus.

    Dust bins have been provided at suitable places for this purpose. Any one found littering the college premises or spitting on the wall or causing any dirtiness will be severely penalized

  • Use / Possession of cellphone (mobile) in the college campus is stricly prohibited for students as per law. Student possessing cellphone in College Campus will be punished as per the Rule
  • The Principal's decision in all matters relating to admission, administration and enforcement of discipline and general rules and special instructions mentioned in this prospectus shall be FINAL & BINDING ON ALL

  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning with sufficient girls hostel facilites & provides accommodation to 35 boarders in 12 rooms
  • The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like Digital classrooms, cental library, hostel, canteen, computer centre, auditorium & gymnasium etc.
  • The College Campus is eco-friendly and free from outside disturbance which provides a congenial atmosphere for study
  • Young and dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • The hostel has adequate games and sports facilities. With the surplus amount of the monthly account of the hostel mess, a ‘Medical Aid Fund’ is maintained that helps in the treatment if boarders fall sick
  • The college has a fully computerised library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • Remedial classes for the disadvantaged students are organized by the college. The advanced learners are provided with special counselling for further improvement
  • There is a provision for special classes for weak students. All these classes do not involve the payment of fees
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • The State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC/ST/OBC
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • Internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
