Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi was established on 1948.

Campus :- CECRI represents the largest research establishment for electrochemistry in South Asia, Headquartered at Karaikudi. CECRI has extension centers in Chennai, Mandapam and Tuticorin.
