Carmel College, Mala was established in 1981. It is managed by the Sisters of the Congregation of Mother of Carmel who guided by their founders Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Rev. Fr. Leopold Beccaro have taken up the apostolate of education.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the University of Calicut, Malappuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.22 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 19th January 2016.

It is a women's college, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in a rural part of a Mala played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Carmel, a first-grade college for women under Calicut University stands nestled in an idyllic locale in a small town called Mala near the southern tip of Thrissur district, the cultural capital of Kerala.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

At present, the college offers 13 UG courses, 8 PG courses, 2 B.Voc courses and 1 Community College course besides Career-Oriented, Add-On and Skill Development Courses under various schemes. In addition to various clubs and forums, students are encouraged to participate in various curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The college offers undergraduate & postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams with optional specializations under the University of Calicut, Malappuram.

It also offers Vocational & Add-On Certificate courses.

All the Under-Graduate Courses are envisaged and implemented as per University Choice Based Credit Semester System (UCBCSS).

For passing the degree programme, a student should obtain a minimum of 120 credits of which 38 credits shall be from Common Courses, 78 credits from Core and Complementary Courses and 4 credits from the Open Courses.
