Calcutta Girls' College, Kolkata was established on 1963.
The college is affiliated to University of Calcutta, Kolkata.
It was founded by Smt. Ena Ghosh, who became the founder Principal, along with noted dignatories like Bijoy Singh Nahar, the then Labour Minster of West Bengal and Labanya Prova Dutta (Ex-MLA) and other noted figures, originally started as an evening college for working girls.
The socio-economic condition then necessitated the establishment of an evening college. The college was unique in its purpose since it was the only college for girls in the evening in the Kolkata.
Many students graduating from this college have excelled in their careers. However evening classes created difficulties for existing students who were fresh out of school. So, the college authorities needed to formulate a new vision.
The College provided an opportunity for these working girls to acquire higher education. The Socio-economic condition then necessitated the hours to be in the evening for the aspirant working women and hence the college was unique in its purpose.
Many students graduating from this College have excelled in their careers. However, in the recent past the composition of the students altered considerably and most of them were coming fresh out of school.
