Brahmanjharilo Mahavidyalaya, Phulnakhera (Dist. Cuttack) was started functioning in its initial years in Brahmanjharilo High School, established in 1977 and the degree courses came into existence from 1983 with help of the financial contribution of teachers of primary, ME & High School well supported by the local public.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 22nd December 1982 under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade (CGPA Score 2.11 on a 4 Point  Scale in 1st Cycle) in 2015.

The aim of the college is to impart proper knowledge to the educated youth in the field of arts and also to enable the prospective teacher to understand the nature, purpose, and spirit of Education.

It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural part of a Cuttack played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

With the change of the education pattern i.e. 10+2+3, the college was affiliated to the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha from the session 1983-84 to impart instruction for +2 courses in Arts respectively by replacing the traditional I.A.

and B.A. courses.

The college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.

The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.
