Bhawabhuti Mahavidyalaya (BMV), Amgaon (Dist. Gondia) was established in 1969 under the management of Bhawabhuti Shikshan Sanstha (R), which was established in 1951.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
The college is affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur (formerly known as Nagpur University) and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.11 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 17th March 2016.

The college is co-educational institutions, providing regular courses located in the rural part of Maharashtra.

The college aim is to empower the educationally backward and disadvantaged rural population by imparting general liberal education in Arts, Commerce and Science subjects with stress on the value of humanism, secularism, and Nationalism.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

It offers U.G. programs namely B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. and P.G. programs in Science (Botany and Zoology). The college also offers a one-year certificate course in Bio-Diversity Resources Management under U.G.C. career Oriented Program at 1st-year U.G. level.

Recently, the college has been recognized by the parent university as a centre for higher learning and research in the subjects Botany and Zoology. The college owns a campus of 10.04 acres. There are more than 1100 students admitted in UG and PG programs. Most students are from Backward Communities like OBC, SC, ST, SBC and VJ/NT etc.

The college has identified "physical training for entry in defense and police services" and "coaching for entry in services (competitive examinations)" as its best practices.
 
The institution has given priority to teaching and learning process.

It has created a better teaching and learning environment in the campus through improved infrastructural and human resources.
