Bishop Moore College, Kallumala (Dist. Alappuzha) was established in 1964 in the honor of the late Rt. Rev. Edward Alfred Livingstone Moore, the fourth Anglican Bishop of Travancore and Cochin of the Church Missionary Society.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.04 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 2nd May 2017.

In 1964, the college started operating as a Junior College offering the two years long Pre-Degree course of the University of Kerala. In 1964, the Kerala Government had announced the need to start more junior colleges in the state.

The CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese got a golden opportunity to uphold the great tradition of the Church Missionary Society in the field of education when the Bishop Rt. Rev. M.M.John, took the historic decision, responding to this announcement and need. He named the college Bishop Moore College. The founder Principal was Rev. KC Mathew.

In 1968, the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram sanctioned undergraduate courses. The first postgraduate course had started in 1982. After the de-linking of Pre-Degree courses from University education system in 2000, the college now offers 10 undergraduate and 3 postgraduate programmes.

PG course was started in the department of physics in 1983. Centre for Nonlinear studies started in 2000. The department of physics was approved by the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram as a research department in 2013.

It is a co-educational Christian Minority Institution managed by the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in a rural part of a Kallumala played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

In 2012, the college celebrated Inauguration of Golden Jubilee Celebrations by Hon’ble Governor of Kerala Sri.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college offers 11 undergraduate & 4 postgraduate programmes, besides research programmes in Chemistry and Physics. The Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) is followed for all the undergraduate programmes and semester system is followed by all the postgraduate programmes.

The affiliating university designs and modifies the curriculum for all the UG and PG programmes. However, the college designs the syllabus for the Add-On Certificate courses.

The college offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts & Science stream with optional specializations under the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It also offers Vocational & Add-On Certificate courses.
