Birpara College (BC), Jalpaiguri was established in 1986.

It is a renowned college in this region. The place is surrounded by several tea gardens and developed a strong economy during the nineties.

The place is inhabited by various ethnic groups such as Bengalis, Gorkhas, Marwaris, Adivasis and the college is leading a vital role to promote the value-based education to the local people. 

The objective of the college is to promote the all round development of the students and to form an educative and concerned community by promoting a positive attitude to health and life. The college has state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure.

The college comes under the North Bengal University, established in 1962 with a goal to disseminate knowledge to fulfill growing socio-economic and technical manpower needs in the six North Bengal districts and the neighboring state of Sikkim. This is a state university situated near Siliguri in Darjeeling district.

This was the first university in the region. The University has played a pioneering role since inception in spreading higher education and scientific attitudes within the predominantly rural areas that comprise its vast jurisdictional territory.
