Birjhora Mahavidyalaya, Bongaigaon popularly known as Birjhora Science College, is a co-education college and was established in 1986.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

The main aim of the college is to fulfill the long felt need of this locality.

Initially the college started by a sponsoring committee namely “Birjhora Mahavidyalaya Nirman Committee” headed by Sri P.B. Choudhury, MLA, with the active support and co-operation from the local people and organisations,the college has subsequently been taken over by the education department of the State Govt. under deficit Grant-in-Aids system w.e.f. 1st January,1990 and the college was provincialised w.e.f December 2005.

The college is one of the premier institutions for higher education offering degree courses in Science recognised by the University Grants Commission under 2 (f) of the UGC Act 1956.

The college offers Three-years Degree Courses in Science (B.Sc) and also apart from the traditional degree courses the college offers study of courses conducted by the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) Gauhati University and Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) and various courses of IGNOU.

The college is surrounded by picturesque landscape and vast area to form its campus. The entire campus gets covered with lush green during the four seasons with trees all around. The campus presents a unique atmosphere and ideal educational environment for students and teachers for all round development.
