Biren Mitra Memorial Women's (Degree) College, Thoria Sahi (Dist. Cuttack) was Non-Government Women's College which was established in 1980 with the contribution of local people of Cuttack and controlled by statutory and non-statutory bodies prescribed by the Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

The aim of the college is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need in this era of information and teaching and as well as to provide the ideal environment to develop the mental, Physical, social and spiritual level of students.

It is a women's self-financing Institute, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in a rural part of a Cuttack played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts and Science stream with various specializations under Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.

The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts and Science stream with various specializations under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.

Apart from this, Self-Financing Courses have been introduced with the approval of the Government such as in History, Political Science, Sanskrit, Oriya, English & Home Science.
