Bijepur Degree College, Bijepur (Dist. Bargarh), a premier educational institution of Odisha was established on 16th August 1990.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with Sambalpur University, Sambalpur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 15th June 2007 under Act, 1956.
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.43 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 23rd January 2017.
It is a co-educational institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural part of a Bargarh played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
Bijepur Degree College, a Govt. Aided Degree College is managed by a Governing Body comprising of the MLA Bijepur constituency as the President, the Principal of the college is the ex-officio Secretary and ten other members among whom are one university nominee and a directorate nominee. The other members are nominated by the president. All the decisions are taken by the Governing Body.
Bijepur is the non-irrigated part of Bargarh District (Drought Prone Area) in the Subdivision of Padampur. Lack of irrigation facility has weakened the financial backbone of the people whose only means of livelihood is agriculture.
Still, the institution grew up with the moral support and financial assistance of the local people and stands as a ‘Lamp Post’ within a radius of 20 km. The college imparts Under-graduate education in Arts (Humanities).
The college got affiliated with Sambalpur University in 1990 and is since then running arts stream with 128 sanction strength. In 1996-97 the college obtained permission to open Honours classes in History, Political Science, Odia and Education with 16 seats each.
The college obtained permanent affiliation in the year 2003-04.
In 2015, the college obtained permission to open Hons. in Economics and English with 16 seats each. The college come under 2F & 12B fold of the U.G.C. in 2007.
Since 1990 to 2009 both +2 and +3 streams of the college were under a single administration in one campus. But consequent open the National Policy of Education by the Order of the Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha, the college was bifurcated into two colleges in 2009. +2 stream of the college come to be known as Junior College, Bijepur and +3 stream come to be known as Bijepur Degree College, Bijepur, under two separate management, establishments in all respects.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.
At present, the college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts stream with various specializations under Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.
The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts stream with optional specializations under the Sambalpur University, Sambalpur. It also offers Add-On Certificate courses. Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.
