Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, Madhepura was established in  1992

by Bihar State Enactment. This is a Co-Education State University approved by UGC. (Bihar State Universities Amendment Act 1991) passed in August 1991 bifurcating L. N. Mithila University, Darbhanga.

The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The university is also  called B. N. Mandal University.

The Uniuversity is offering Under graduate and Post graduate courses in Science, Arts and Commerce stream.

The University is well equipped with all modern facilities. A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to the students of the University.

The University has the Department of Arts,Commerce, Science, Computer Science,  Business Administration, Physical Education, Hospitality & Hotel Mgmt., Law and Medical Sciences.
