About Bhawanipur Hastinapur Bijni College (B.H.B)

Bhawanipur Hastinapur Bijni College (B.H.B.) College, Barpeta was established on 1st July, 1971 as an institution of higher learning at Sarupeta.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by the University Grants Commission under 2 (f) of the UGC Act 1956 in 1995. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2004.

B.H.B. College is the oldest institution in 41, Bhawanipur Legislative Assembly Constituency, a segment of Kokrajhar Parliamentary Constituency of Assam which is a reserved seat for scheduled tribes.

The prime purpose of the establishment of the college was to have an institution at close quarters that could help them have ready access to higher learning.

The college, with its band of dedicated teachers excels in imparting quality education to students and at the same time instilling in them the moral and ethical values necessary for living in harmony with others.

The college is a medley of students belonging to different ethnic groups living in perfect harmony with each other. The college spares no effort to provide with them the wherewithal both academically and morally to face the challenges of life that life in the 21st century has thrown in and also to turn them into model citizens full of character and nationalistic feelings. Competitions and cultural events which form the academic life of the students help them immensely to show case their innate talent and also to realize their tremendous potential through participation in all these events.

The college offers degree courses in Arts and Commerce faculty under Gauhati University, Guwahati and Higher Secondary Course of this College i.e. 10+2 level course under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati.

The college conducts the following UGC sponsored career oriented programmes at the Three-Year Degree level i.e.

The college also offers Computer Application as an elective subject in the Three-Year Degree Course (Arts)


Aims & Objectives:

Rules & Regulations at Bhawanipur Hastinapur Bijni College (B.H.B.) College, Barpeta:

Rules for the Library:

  • The students are provided with Borrower Cards. These cards are strictly non-transferable. The cards must be surrendered at the end of the academic session
  • One Borrower Card is issued to each student of H.S. Class / TDC General Course and he / she can borrow one book at a time. Two Borrower cards are issued to each student of Major Course and he / she can borrow two books at a time
  • No student is allowed to keep a book for more than 10 days in any case. A fine of Rs .50 (fifty paisa only) will be imposed for each day for book / books retained beyond the specified time.

    However, borrowed book / books, if returned before the expiry of the specified date, may be re-issued for a period of another 10 days

  • Any book lost, or damaged must be replaced by the borrower. If the book is one of a series and cannot be obtained singly, the whole set must be replaced by the borrower

College Uniform:

  • It is compulsory for the students of the college to wear uniform

Genral Rules:

  • Students are required to maintain a high standard of discipline by adhering to the rules and regulations of the college
  • Any of the following acts by a student shall be considered as a major offence against discipline and shall make him / her liable for stern disciplinary action

(i) Involvement in ragging in the college campus.
(ii) Resorting to violence of any kind.
(iii) Adoption of unfair means in the examinations.
(iv) Disobedience and indecent behaviour to any members of the teaching and non - teaching staff of the college.
(v) Damaging, defacing or devaluing any college property.

Disciplinary Committee:

  • All powers of maintenance of discipline are vested with the Disciplinary Committee of the college comprising Principal, Vice Principal and tenmembers of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college

 

  • The college has well-equipped with spacious classrooms all modern facilities, required for the students to study here
  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning  and sufficient girls hostel facilites for needy and poor students
  • Young and dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • The college has a fully computerised library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as that of the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • The reading room of the library provides ample facilities for reading to a large number of students as well as teachers. Reprographic facilities are also available in the library
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college

Students here are awarded both merit and other scholarships.

The following categories of scholarships are available to the needy and deserving students of the college.
1. National Scholarship.
2. State Merit Scholarship.
3. SC / ST Scholarship.
4. National Merit Scholarship for the children of school teachers.
5. National Loan Scholarship.

  • The college has Students Aid Fund for helping the poor students


The college awards the following Merit Prizes to the deserving students

[A cash prize of Rs. 500.00 (Rupees Five Hundred) only will be awarded to each student securing 75% or more marks in aggregate in H.S. Final Examination.
A cash prize of Rs. 700.00 (Rupees Seven Hundred) only will be awarded to each student securing 1st Class in Major Course (in any subject) in the TDC Final Examination]

  • The college has a Career Counselling Cell which is of great use to the students. The Coordinator guides the students to look for career opportunities wherever available and also encourages them to take up self-employment. Moreover, teachers are of all help to the students for academic as well as for personal counseling
  • There is a unit of N.S.S. in the college, which carries out various social work and extension education activities under the guidance of the N.S.S. Programme Officer

The college gives special emphasis on various co-curricular activities and extension education prorgramme.
