Belda College(BC), Paschim Medinipur was established in 1963.

The college is a Self Financing, co education college. The college was established to impart the higher education in this region.

The college was affiliated to UGC recognition under 2F in 1964. The college is situated in a picturesque site amid the conducive atmosphere of learning. It is away from the din and bustle of the town life.

The scenery of bounteous nature, the open face of the blue vault of heaven, the spacious grassy playground adds to the very first day of its inception.

The primary objective of the founders of this college is to provide a scope & opportunity of higher education to the people of this locality.

The college offers under graduate courses in Arts, Science and commerce stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities. A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to the students of the college. The college is affiliated to Vidyasagar University in 1985.

The University  was established in 1981 and  named after one of the most illustrious sons of Bengal as well as one of the doyens of Indian Renaissance, Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, has grown out of a long cultural and educational movement in West Bengal.

The idea of founding a University in the district was mooted by the various organizations, notably by the Regional Education Association, Midnapore, headed by Professor A.K.Gayen of IIT, Kharagpur.

The University was established with a mission to fulfill the higher mainstream education needs of the region. The University has been awarded with 3-star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
