Barbhag College, Nalbari was established in 1964 as the result of the toil and sacrifices of a few spirited and progressive individuals who worked day and night for years to turn this cherished dream into reality.

At present the college is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) under 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act and affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and Intermediate / Higher Secondary Courses are affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The college much-awaited and long-felt need for an institution imparting quality education at the higher level of study with an eye on the character building of the younger generation in the Barbhag area of Nalbari District.

Since its beginning, the institution has been striving hard to make the rural folk of Barbhag truly educated. The economically backward people of Barbhag area have immensely benefited from this centre of Higher education.

It has been successful to a great extent in fulfilling the academic aspirations of the people. So far the students of the college have shown good academic results.

The college has been striving, in recent years, to encourage research on diverse subjects. With a view to creating an academic and research environment, a number of conferences and seminars of national importance were successfully organised in the last decade. In keeping with the initiative of encouraging research, the college has also brought out a number of research publications.

The college has taken, and further intends to take innovative steps towards improving quality of education in keeping with the fast changing trends in higher education.

The college offers courses of study in Arts and Science faculty at Degree (General) & Major Level (for Arts) under Gauhati University, Guwahati and Higher Secondary Course of this College is 10+2 level course under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati.

CURRICULAR:

Internal Quality Assurance Cell(IQAC):

• Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Barbhag College was established in 2003 with a view to undertaking and monitoring internal quality initiatives in the college. The cell has its own internal quality audit mechanism and largely functions as per guidelines of NAAC and UGC

College Magazine:

• Barbhag College Students Union publishes an annual Magazine where both students and teachers contribute. Over the years this Magazine has served as a platform for intellectual development particularly of the students of the College

Special Awards for Students with Academic Excellence:

• Two special awards for students with Academic Excellence were instituted in the year 2006- Late Nanda Ram Lahkar Merit Award and Late Sachindra Deka Merit Award, donated by Sri K.C. Lahkar, Head of the Deptt. of Economics and Sri Prasanna Kr. Deka, Associate Prof., Deptt. of Mathematics,Barbhag College respectively

• Late Nanda Ram Lahkar Merit Award is given every year to a student of Barbhag College, who obtains highest mark in BA final Semester Examination in Arts stream subject to minimum average qualifying mark 55%

• Late Sachindra Deka Merit Award is given to a student of Barbhag College, who obtains highest aggregate mark in HS final Examination subject to a minimum average qualifying mark of 70%

Besides these, students with the following examination –performances are also given special cash awards by the College Authority:

1. First class first position in BA Final Semester (Major) examination under G.U in any subject.
2. First class in BA Final Semester (Major) examination under G.U. in any subject.

Distance Education:

• Barbhag College is a study centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) and a contact centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University, Guwahati

Information Cell:

• The college has an information Cell, formed as per the provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2005, with a designated PIO and APIO. The principal is the final appellate authority

Anti-Ragging Committee:

• There is an Anti-Ragging Committee in the College. The committee works for checking of ragging in the college and takes punitive measures, if needed, against an offending student.
