About Balabhai Damodardas (B.D.) College

Bhogilal Damodardas (B.D.) College, Ahmedabad was established in 1956 by the donation of Sakarlal Balabhai Damodardas Charitable Trust.

It is one of the premier girl's college to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.

The college is affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

It is located in the heart of the walled city and the college was inaugurated by Shri Morarjibhai Desai, the Chief Minister of Bombay Province. It has the proud privilege of being the first college in Gujarat University, Ahmedabad to have offered Home Science as the entire subject in the three years degree course.

The college has the honor of starting Post Graduate Center in Home Science in 1961, for the first time in Gujarat and since then it has remained the only P.G. center in Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.

The P.G. Department has to its credit 160 dissertations. It also ran the center for M.phil in Home Science for 6 years. Ten students also obtained Ph.D. from this center under the guidance of Dr. Leelaben Shah, Dr. A.N. Desai, and Dr. U.D. Patel. In 1983, the college hosted a conference of Gujarat Chapter of All India Home Science Teacher Association.

The college came under the protective wings of Gujarat Law Society. It has the singular fortune of being one of the academic societies in Gujarat. This change provided moral support and able guidance from Shri A.K. Dave (1984-1992) and principal Shri N.R. Shah – Director, G.L.S from 1992 till date. Students have won many laurels.

The college has always attained 20% to 30% higher results than the university results.

The college students have made their mark in various subjects like Home Science, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, Philosophy and Sanskrit winning more than, 165 Gold Medals and Prizes, in university exams.

In this girls college in the extracurricular activities also, the students have carved a niche for themselves and have stood first in 225 competitions of all sorts-record as remarkable if not more as any co-education college.

The college regularly holds talent search in Elocution, Music, Dance, and Drama, as also Elocution in several languages. The success of these efforts can be gauged from the fact that the college was awarded.

The college has an attractive, campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and with good results.
The college has the most eminent Faculty members and they are really well qualified, experienced and truly committed towards enhancement and development of the students.
The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, canteen, seminar halls, multipurpose halls & playground etc.
A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college.
The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed.
The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs.
State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment.
For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals.
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college.
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college represented Gujarat University, Ahmedabad in All India Youth Festival, Folk Dance competitions Five times. At Youth Festival the college has been a topper for 25 years, bagging several prizes in Elocution Competition, Extempore Verse Making Competition, Group Discussion, Skit, Mine, Mono-acting, Folk Dance, Light Vocal Music, Group Songs, Classical Dance and Fine Arts Competitions like painting sculpture, poster making, college, rangoli etc.
