B.M.S.M College of Education, Purana Shalla (Dist. Gurdaspur) was also populary as Baba Mehar Singh Memorial College of Education, Gurdaspur established in 2005 in the memory of Late S. Mehar Singh and managed by Baba Mehar Singh Educational Society which was established in 2003.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. 

It is also recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Jaipur to offers B.Ed & D.Ed. courses.

The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.

Keeping in view his services, The society named Baba Mehar Singh Memorial College started B.M.S.M. Group of Institutes in his memory for the upliftment of education in this rural area.

B.M.S.M. Group of Institutions started its journey in Degree level Education by establishing B.M.S.M College in 2004. Later number of colleges and institutions was started accordingly.

It is a co-educational private Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the rural part of Gurdaspur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college also received the many achievements awards in the field of Teacher Training under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

At present college also started to offer two years Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) course for those who have completed their intermediate with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized college/university under the affiliating to Department of School Education & SCERT, Rohtak.

Apart from this, the college offers two years diploma level course of Elementary Teacher Training (E.T.T.) for teaching. This program is an opening path for the students who have passed their senior secondary examination (10+2).
