B.M.S. College for Women, Bengaluru Urban was established on 1st June 1964 by Dharma Prakasha Rajakarya Prasaktha, Late B. M. Srinivasaiah, the doyen of higher education and his son late. B. S. Narayan, a great visionary to provide women with a fair share of opportunities.

BMSCW is an integral part of BMS Educational Trust which governs highly reputed institutions like BMSCE, BMSECE, BMSIT, BMSSA, and BMS College of Law and a super specialty B.S. Narayan Memorial Hospital.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 20th August 1982 & 12(B) on 12th December 1974 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.03 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 31st December 2009.

Located in the verdant green environs of Basavanagudi, the college is an impressive campus next to the Bugle Rock Park. The campus has been established on a comprehensive long-term master plan and is self-sustaining.

Started with 34 students at the Pre-University level the College emerged as one of the few higher education institutions accredited with 'A' grade in 2004 & 2009.

The college offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Computer Application, and Postgraduate courses in M.Com & M.Sc in Mathematics. Basic English language is compulsory for all the undergraduate courses and one M.I.L. out of 4 languages.

Thirty-five spacious lecture halls each with a seating capacity of 120 students, practical labs equipped for research, two life science museums, an open air auditorium, sports and recreation centre, administrative block, acoustically modeled seminar hall, library and information centre in the campus exemplify an ideal atmosphere for an effective teaching- learning research process with student-centered approach.

Highly qualified faculty provides a strong academic background to the students.
