About B.D. Shah College of Education (C.T.E.), Modasa

Bhogilal Damodardas (B.D.) Shah College of Education (C.T.E.), Modasa was established in June 1968 by the M.L. Gandhi Higher Education Society looking at the need of teacher education in this Tribal belt region of Gujarat State.

It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.

The college is affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956 in June 1974.

It is also recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhopal for Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) courses. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

B.D. Shah College of Education was given the name of the well-known advocate for this region Late Shri Bhogilal Damodardas Shah and the amount was donated by his son & ex-president of the management Late Shri J.B.Shah.

The institution was awarded “The Best college" award by Government of Gujarat in the year 1983. Well-known educationist Dr.Dawoodbhai A. Ganchi served effectively as founder principal of this institution and later he served as Pro-Vice- Chancellor of Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan and also served as a Vice-Chancellor of the same.

The institute offers one year & two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

Apart from this the college also has a Contact Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi for two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Courses.

Various teaching and learning techniques are being used by the faculty to impart knowledge and skills to students at Bhogilal Damodardas (B.D.) Shah College of Education (C.T.E.), Modasa in its various departments.

To make Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as institute’s nodal agency and create networking with other institutions for quality assurance
To develop effective teacher education program keeping quality as the main parameter in the context of designing of syllabus and co-curricular activities in collaboration with parent University
To organize teacher education program comprising of all necessary skills required to be developed among the student-teachers for the transaction of instructions and related school activities and responsibilities
To stimulate the institutional academic environment to develop scientific temperament to use and promote advance teaching–learning technology and methods of teaching in classrooms
To create awareness among pre-service student teachers and in-service teachers and headmasters of schools by conducting training programmes and related researchers to motivate them by making quality as defining element

Aims:

To develop a positive attitude among the student-teachers towards teaching profession
To establish and develop the skill of teaching and life skills among the student-teachers
To develop critical and rational thinking abilities amongst the student – teachers
To develop confidence among the student –teachers for strong self-esteem and high personal expectations
To develop teaching qualities and behavioral habits and induct & inculcate values among the student-teachers through the organization of various curricular, co-curricular and cultural activities among the student-teachers
To use ICT equipment in the classroom teaching by the teacher-educators and promote and motivate the student-teachers to use the same in their practice teaching in the schools
To create societal and national sensitization among the student-teachers through community work and celebration of national days
To provide orientation and training regarding current trends in education, pedagogy and various new methods of teaching in education through in-service training programmes by College of Teacher Education (C.T.E )
To promote, develop and guide educational research activities among the school teachers and headmasters of this region
To develop networking with schools and other local, national and international institutions for enhancement of institutional growth and development
To continuously provide support and motivation to student-teachers and alumni for their overall development to be the best teacher

The college has an attractive, campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and with good results

The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
The college has got a large playground, Basket Ball court and facilities and equipment for different sports like Cricket, football, Volleyball, Hockey, badminton, Table tennis and so on
A health care has been started in the college for the benefit of students and the local population. Two highly qualified Doctors weekly visit the center. Checkups are done and medicines are given free of costs
State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment.
For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals
The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
