Assumption College (Autonomous), Changanacherry (Dist. Kottayam) was established in 1950 by the Archdiocese of Changanacherry with the specific objective of empowering women through higher education.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.10 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 5th May 2014.
It is a women's college, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in an Urban part of a Kochi played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college has the reputation of being one of the leading colleges for women in Kerala imparting value based education catering to the ever-changing needs of the educational sector.
In 1997, the college was honored by the Govt. of Kerala with the R Shankar Award for the best Non- special grade college in the state. The college was awarded Five-star rating by Kerala Government, for the outstanding performance in the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP).
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.
The college attained autonomous status in the year 2016. College signed MoU with Sophia University, Japan.
The college is one among the hundred top ranking institutions in India, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2017 conducted by MHRD. The college is also a proud member of the United Nations Academic Impact( UNAI) from 2017.
In 1997, the college was honored by the Government of Kerala, with the successful R.Shankar Award, for the best nonspecial grade college in the state. The college received Bharatiya Shiksha Ratan Award of the Economic for Health and Educational Growth, New Delhi, Shiksha Bharati Award instituted by Indian Achievers Forum, New Delhi and Gyan Bharati Shiksha Award by Global Management Council, Ahamadabad, Gujarath in 2007.
The college also received Educational Excellence Award - 2015, instituted by the DC Group of Companies for the meritorious achievements in the field of women empowerment through education and entrepreneurship.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce streams & offers two years postgraduate courses in Science & Commerce stream with optional specializations under the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It also offers Research & Add-On Certificate courses.
All the Under-Graduate Courses are envisaged and implemented as per University of Calicut Choice Based Credit Semester System (CUCBCSS).
For passing the degree programme, a student should obtain a minimum of 120 credits of which 38 credits shall be from Common Courses, 78 credits from Core and Complementary Courses and 4 credits from the Open Courses.
