Ajara Mahavidyalaya, Ajara (Dist. Kolhapur) was established in 1982 and managed by Janata Education Society (R).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 1989 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.70 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 30th November 2011.

The aim of the college is committed to the liberal humanist ideals and has been renowned for its active role in social justice initiatives, innovative educational programs, research and community-oriented activities.

It is a co-educational private Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Kolhapur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college was started in the form of B.Com. Part I class in 1982. In 1983,  the college started B.A. Part I and in 1993 B.Sc.Part I. Vocational wing was started at +2 level in 1993 and the computer center was started under Yashawantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik in 1995.

The Science wing was started in 1993 in the form of B.Sc. part I class on a non-grant basis and have obtained the permanent affiliation of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur to all the Science subjects from 1999.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the admission criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management stream with various specializations and two years postgraduate courses in Arts and Commerce with various specializations under Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
