According to the NIRF score laid down by the MHRD, IIT Madras tops the list. Established in 1959, it is one of the oldest IITs in the country. It was accredited a weightage of 89.42. 2. Indian Institute Of Technology, Bombay

This IIT stands at the second place according to the HRD ministry's list that ranks colleges in order of their placement and other facilities. It has a weightage of 87.67. The fee structure stands at Rs 3 lakh per year for an undergraduate course and Rs 1.5 lakh per year for that of a postgraduate degree. These figures stand consistent for all the seven IITs in this list.

3.Indian Institute Of Technology, Kharagpur

Being the oldest IIT, this institution was set-up way back in 1951. With a lot of foreign manpower being invested in setting up this centre of excellence, it was aimed that this institution would provide quality engineers who would contribute to the development of the nation.

Today, sixty-five years down the line, the placement scene in the college assures us that this is what it has been doing all through the decades. According to MHRD, the weightage of this institution stands at 83.91.

Established in 1961, this institution has a positional advantage when it comes to chalking out the placements. The institution has a lot of new and unconventional courses on offer as well. Its weightage stands at 82.03.

5. Indian Institute Of Technology, Kanpur

Established in 1959, this college holds the record for having the most number of consecutive 100% placement records by any institution in the country. The MHRD has accredited it a weightage of 81.07.

6. Indian Institute Of Technology, Roorkee

Comparatively newer than other IITs in the list of top colleges, this IIT was established only in 2001. Because of its fresh nature, this institution offers a number of brand new courses that are unconventional in nature. The placement scene is also pretty good here. The MHRD has given it a weightage of 78.68.

7. Indian Institute Of Technology, Guwahati

The only institution from the northeastern part of the country to feature in this list of top 10 engineering colleges of the county is IIT Guwahati. This IIT has played a commendable role in bringing education to the fingertips of people from this deprived region. Thanks to the quality of teaching here, more and more companies are being attracted to this institution and the placement scene is improving by the day. The score of this college is 72.30.

8. Anna University, Chennai

This institution has a modest fee structure of Rs 26, 000 per year (this does not include hostel and examination fee). Defying popular believes that placement in engineering colleges is an exclusive privilege of the students belonging to Computer Science or Electronics, this institute that offers exclusively degrees in Chemical Engineering is able to place its students in PSUs, like BPCL and ONGC, with a package of above Rs 10 lakh per year. The fee structure here is Rs 2.77 lakh for the entire course. The MHRD score here is 57.97.

24. College Of Engineering, Pune
