JoSAA Counselling: 8 Steps To Land At The Institute's Doors

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), which has been set up by the HRD Ministry to manage and regulate the JEE counselling, will open the window for the registration and the choice filling steps in the second week of June. The counselling will be conducted for an admission to 107 institutes that include 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 other government-funded technical institutes (Other-GFTIs). Students have to be very careful during the choice filling process. To make the JoSAA counselling process easy, we have decided to display the 8 steps of the counselling process. Let's take a look at them.

JoSAA Counselling: Schedule Of Events For JoSAA

Step-1: Registration

The first step of JEE counselling is the registration. Candidates who appeared in JEE Main are eligible for seat allocation in NIT+ system. They are not eligible for IITs. Only candidates who passed with flying colours in JEE Advanced are eligible to register for the seat allocation in all participating institutes.

Candidates have to register using their JEE Main or Advanced credentials. There is no need to enter the basic information again as it will be retrieved from JEE Main registration forms. Changing of the password is mandatory before registering.

Step-2: Choice Filling

Candidates may fill in their choices of branches and institutes in decreasing order of their preference. One should choose the choices based on their eligibility. However, the list of choices will be available on the screen once the registration process is done.

Step-3: Locking Of Choices

Candidates have to lock their choices after filling them in. If you do not lock your choices, your last-saved choices will be locked automatically when the time window for filling in of choices closes. We suggest you lock the choices at least 24 hours before to avoid last-minute rush.

Step-4: Number of rounds of seat allocation

JoSAA counselling will be conducted in seven rounds. For every round, the document verification and acceptance/withdrawal of seat is done.

Step-5: Seat Acceptance

In this round, candidates who have been allotted seats must download their Provisional Allotment Letter. They need to pay the seat acceptance fee through the SBI e-Challan/SBI Net Banking/SBI Debit Cards.

After the fee payment, they have to verify the documents at any reporting centre for the provisional seat acceptance. To know more about the seat allotment procedure, click here.

Step-6: Participation in subsequent rounds

If a candidate is not satisfied with the seat allotted, they can select an option to reject it. One can choose to "freeze" their option, which means a candidate has selected the seat. Their is also an option to "float" one's choice, meaning, a candidate has accepted the seat but prefers a higher institute and/or course. While coming to the "slide" option, a candidate will accept the seat in the institute but indicates that they will take it only for an admission to a better course in the respective institute.

Step-7: Reporting Centre

After paying the prescribed fee, candidates have to report at their designated reporting centre for document verification. If candidates fail to visit the reporting centre and produce the required documents, their admission may get cancelled. To know which documents are required, click here.

Step-8: Report To Allotted Institute

Candidates who have successfully completed their document verification have to report to their respective institutes to confirm their admission. If any fee payment is pending, candidates can pay the necessary amount at the institute. Candidates are suggested to carry the printout of the final locked choices while reporting.

In dual reporting, if a candidate's allotment from NIT+ system changes to an IIT, a candidate must report once again at an IIT reporting centre. This is same for the IIT to NIT+ system. If a candidate fails to do so, the seat will not be declared valid in both the NIT+ system or the IIT one. A candidate who has accepted a seat can withdraw it up to the sixth round of the seat allocation process.
