Monsoon Session Of Parliament 2021: The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today responded to a slew of written questions in the Lok Sabha concerning education during the Indian monsoon session of parliament apprising the house about the measures and development initiatives taken by the Center in this regard.

'Study In India' Programme And Yoga Training

Responding to a question on India's "Study in India" flagship programme and inclusion of Yoga training as part of the project, the Education Minister said, "The government has included Yoga training in the 'Study in India' programme to encourage Yoga seekers from abroad to obtain authentic Yoga training in India."

"The UGC has approved the establishment of an Inter-University Centre-Yogic Science at Bengaluru and introduced Yoga as a new National Eligibility Test (NET) subject from January 2017 UGC-NET onwards. Yoga Departments have been established in nine central universities," the Education Minister added.

Education Minister On Vacancies At IITs, NITs

Informing Lok Sabha about 39 vacant positions at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in response to a written query, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "At present, eight posts of chairman at IITs and 21 posts of chairman at NITs are vacant. Further, five posts of directors in IITs and five posts in NITs are vacant. The nomination and selection of chairman and other posts is a continuous process."

Education Minister On Educational Spending And Promotion

The Union Education Minister while replying to a question on educational spending and promotion of virtual learning apprised the Parliament that Rs. 6,143 crore has been recommended as grant by the 15th Finance Commission for the development of professional courses in regional languages and promotion of online education.

"Rs. 14.75 crore has been spent in FY 2020-21 to enhance access to e-learning and ensure that education and learning do not suffer due to Covid-induced challenges," Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted.
