India’s Ministry of Education has extended National Means‑cum‑Merit Scholarship Scheme applications on the National Scholarship Portal to September 30, 2026. As of September 4, 2026, Class 9 qualifiers and eligible renewals should file without delay. The extension helps, but institute and district verification still need time before payment processing.
Under NMMSS, one lakh fresh scholarships support meritorious students from economically weaker families. The income ceiling remains Rs 3.5 lakh annually. Awards start in Class 9 and continue through Class 12 if renewal conditions are met. Minimum marks are prescribed, with relaxation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students.

Apply now if you were declared qualified for NMMSS and enrolled in Class 9. Current awardees in Classes 10, 11 or 12 must submit renewal applications. The scheme covers Government, Government‑aided, and local body schools only. States and districts are notifying qualified students to register on NSP.
Keep Aadhaar, bank passbook, income certificate, domicile, caste certificate if applicable, last exam marksheet, bonafide form, and a recent photograph ready. Upload PDF or JPEG files within 200 KB, as required. Use a bank account in your name. Matching details help avoid eKYC or OTR failures during registration.
First generate your One Time Registration using the NSP OTR app or portal with Aadhaar authentication. Then complete and submit the NMMSS application on NSP. The Institute Nodal Officer verifies at Level‑1, followed by District or State verification at Level‑2. After approval, PFMS validates accounts before fund release.
Track disbursement through PFMS using Know Your Payments with bank account, Aadhaar, or NSP Application ID. Cross‑check application status on NSP. Common blockers include oversize uploads, inactive or mismatched bank accounts, or duplicate profiles flagged during de‑duplication. Use only scholarships.gov.in or nsp.gov.in. For help, email [email protected] or call 0120‑6619540; PFMS 1800‑118‑111. Apply well before September 30.
