Howard University, Netflix Partner USD 5.4M Scholarship Honouring Late 'Black Panther' Actor Chadwick Boseman

Howard University and Netflix have created a USD 5.4M Chadwick A Boseman Memorial Scholarship covering four years of tuition at Howard’s College of Fine Arts honouring late Black Panther actor Boseman

In a moving tribute to late actor Chadwick Aaron Boseman of the 'Black Panther' fame, Howard University partnering with the streaming giant Netflix has announced the creation of a USD 5.4M scholarship named after the late star, who also was the alumnus of the university.

The Chadwick A Boseman Memorial Scholarship - a four-year scholarship will be offered to the incoming students in the College of Fine Arts, which was renamed after the late Black Panther star a month ago at the Howard University, and will be covering the entire tuition fee.

Speaking about the Boseman Scholarship, Howard University President Wayne Frederick said, "It is with immense pleasure and deep gratitude that we announce the creation of an endowed scholarship in honor of alumnus Chadwick Boseman, whose life and contributions to the arts continues to inspire."

"This scholarship embodies Chadwick's love for Howard, his passion for storytelling, and his willingness to support future generations of Howard students. I am thankful for the continuous support and partnership of Chadwick's wife, Mrs Simone Ledward-Boseman, and to Netflix for this important gift," Howard University President added, as reported by The Guardian

The USD 5.4M scholarship which is established in conjunction with Netflix and Simone Ledward-Boseman, the widow of Black Panther star, will be preferring students in the dramatic arts, and those who embody and add credence to the late actor's values of leadership, empathy, respect, passion, leadership and urge for excellence beyond the normal.

Buoyed by the Howard University and Netflix initiative to honour her late actor-husband, Simone Ledward-Boseman said, "Many exemplary artists are not afforded the opportunity to pursue higher learning; we hope to support as many students as possible by removing the financial barrier to education. This endowment represents Chad's devotion to the craft, his compassion for others, and his deep desire to support future storytellers," The Hollywood Reporter quoted the late actor's wife.

"I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and amazed at the love and dedication shown by so many continuing to honor my husband's work. I know he'd be proud," she added.

Reminiscing Chadwick Boseman's body of work and individuality, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, "He always spoke of his time at Howard and the positive way it shaped his life and career. Now, we will have the opportunity to give many future superheroes a chance to experience the same. We are grateful to Simone and Chadwick's whole family and our partners at Howard University for making this possible."

Netflix is the inaugural donor of the Chadwick A Boseman Memorial Scholarship, which kicks off this fall.
