Universities, Colleges In Karnataka Asked To Postpone Exams; Continue With Online Classes

Universities and colleges in Karnataka have been directed to continue with the virtual classes and advised to postpone the exams to be held at a later stage once the pandemic situation is brought under control.

The suggestion comes amid prevailing uncertainty over the conduct of exams across Universities and colleges in Karnataka who were directed to proceed to hold online classes for all UG programs covering all even semesters (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th).

Confirming the same Dy. Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister, Dr. Ashwath Narayan said, "Universities and colleges that have not completed odd semester examinations of undergraduate programs shall continue online classes for even semesters as there is a carryover system in most of the programs. The remaining examinations of odd semesters of UG programs can be conducted/scheduled once the pandemic situation comes under control," as reported by TNM

"In universities where classes of the odd semester are completed and only examinations are pending, they shall continue online classes for even semesters. The examinations of odd semesters can be conducted/scheduled once the COVID-19 situation eases," the Minister added.

Vice-Chancellors and Principals of the Universities and colleges in Karnataka have been instructed to consult Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) to work out the modalities in case of issues regarding the carryover system concerning higher semesters associated with engineering or professional programs.

Making an observation regarding a delay in the admission processes to the first semester in some institutions under the postgraduate programs, the Minister for Higher Education said, "Admission processes for the first semesters were delayed in some universities due to the COVID-19 situation. Third-semester classes have been completed in many of the universities; while in some universities, examinations were to be started."
