Nagpur University Exam Cancelled Over Tech Glitch

The issue popped up when an anti-virus security feature installed in Nagpur University's server placed in Hyderabad blocked students' requests on the server sensing it to be fictitious.

Speaking to TOI about the issue, BoEE Director Prafulla Sable said, "It was totally unexpected that an anti-virus would block students' requests on servers. Neither us nor Promarc officials had ever experienced such technical glitches or ever thought of it."

According Promarc officials, Nagpur University has placed four of its servers in Hyderabad, which are one-of-its-kind in Asia.

Stating that, they have kept two different servers for database and app granting firewall protection for the former server, and Symantec anti-virus protection for the latter as an added security, which blocked the students' entry into the server after getting multiple requests at same time perceiving them to be fictitious. Even we couldn't gauge the problem till evening, the Promarc officials added.

The Nagpur University and Promarc officials claimed to have fixed the technical glitch, and are hopeful about the smooth conduct of exams in days to follow.

"After doing away with the OTP condition, we have texted over 20,000 examinees to update Pariksha App. As all of them started the process on Friday at more or less the same time, the anti-virus in the server suspected it to be fictitious activity and blocked all entries," the BoEE Director told TOI.
