MH-CET 2016: Single entrance for engineering, medical colleges

Mumbai: Admissions to engineering and medical colleges in Maharashtra for the Academic session 2016-17 will be based on students' scores in a single common entrance test.

The decision with regard to MH-CET admission for the next academic session was finally issued by the state government recently.

MH-CET to conduct single entrance test

"According to the notification, no weightage will be given to class XII marks for engineering admissions as it was done in the last two years."

The entrance test will go back to the pattern followed till 2012, before the centre mooted the idea of a common entrance test for engineering as well as medical admissions.

While physics and chemistry will be a common subject for all students, biology marks will be considered for admissions to health science courses and mathematics will be considered for engineering aspirants.

The announcement was made by the Higher and technical education minister Vinod Tawde early this year. Apparently, no official notification was issued on the same.

However, Junior college teachers, are not happy with the decision, as students may not give equal importance to their class XII board examination as they did in the last two years.
