Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who is also the Chancellor of Universities in the state, has called on the vice chancellors (VCs) of varsities for conducting exams and declaring results before October 31 this year.
According to sources, the Governor has asked VCs of the varsities, including Mumbai University to start holding practical exams from September 15 and convene a Board of Examinations (BOE) and Academic Council meet to decide on the modality of exams and for annocing the results by October 31.

The governor addressing VCs of all state universities during an online meet suggested at exploring newer options and methods for conducting the exams amid pandemic in a successfully manner by resorting to MCQ or OMR mode while taking to offline mode only in exceptional cases.
The directive by the governor to university VCs comes in the wake of a recent Supreme Court judgment which had ruled that final-year examinations were mandatory, and that no final year/semester student would be promoted without giving exams by the university citing Covid-19 pandemic.

It may be noted that out of 13 varsities in Maharashtra state, 11 universities had sought extension of the UGC deadline of September 30 for conducting examinations to October 31.
