Indian Students At Australia Universities Declined

The number of Indian students both in Vocational Training and Higher Education Segments are being continued to be declined in Educational Institutes of Australia. The record says that Our Indian students were the second largest source for Higher education sector of Australia which is now replaced by the Malaysian students, as a result even the number of international students coming to this country has also come down.

Although China continues to be the top source country with 40%, Malaysia stand to be second with 7.5%. A year back, when China was responsible for 27% of international students enrolling in Australia University for Higher Education purpose. India's share was about 15% which has been declined to 9.4%, and still reducing every year.

During 2009, the media of Australia, mostly in Melbourne, and India publicised reports of crimes and robberies against Indians in Australia that were described as racially motivated crimes. There were 120,913 Indian students enrolled to undertake an Australian qualification in 2009 and then, India was the second top-source country for Australia’s international education industry. With respect to all the illegal activities on the Indian-Abroad Students since 2008, The educational Policing and Safety issues were undertaken by the governments and Highcourt's in order to prevent attacks on Indians Abroad.

As part of the initiative to create an institutionalized mechanism to prevent racist attacks on Indians abroad, Vayalar Ravi, the head of the overseas Indian affairs ministry, has been tasked to protect the Indians in Australia. Ravi has called for a report on these incidents from the Indian High Commission in Australia. This has lead to the decrease in number of students enrolling for these Universities. Australian Vocational Training Courses have faced a arduous decline with 17.5% less enrollments, due to which many vocational institutions are shutting down in Australia.

During the first six months of 2011, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), recorded a 21 percent rise in student visa applications from India."The number of student visa applications is rebounding, that category is up significantly," Peter Speldewinde, assistant secretary in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, told Australian newspaper The Age. Though Australian Government is keen on reviving as a preferred study abroad destination and attract more number of foreign students, the strict student visa rules are deterring the students.
