Shehan Karunatilaka wins Booker Prize 2022 for The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. Set in 1990 Sri Lanka during the country's civil war, the author's story follows gay war photographer and gambler Maali Almeida, who wakes up dead.

Facts on Booker Prize
- The Booker Prize, formerly known as the Booker Prize for Fiction (1969-2001) and the Man Booker Prize (2002-2019), is a literary prize awarded each year for the best novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
- The winner receives a cash prize of £50,000.
- In addition, all the shortlisted authors are rewarded with £2,500 each.
- Just so you know, there is another Booker Prize namely 'the International Booker Prize' which is given to books translated in English from other languages.
- It also has a prize money of £50,000 which is split evenly between the author and the translator.
Booker 2022 Shortlisted Authors
British author Alan Garner's "Treacle Walker", Zimbabwean author NoViolet Bulawayo's "Glory", "Small Things Like These" by Irish writer Claire Keegan, U.S. author Percival Everett's "The Trees" and "Oh William!" by U.S. author Elizabeth Strout were shortlisted for this year 2022 Booker Prize. Each of them receive a consolation prize of £2,500 each.

National Maritime Heritage Complex coming up at Lothal; PM to review site work progress today, October 18
Started in March 2022, National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is going to be developed as an international tourist destination at a cost of around Rs.3500 crore. Lothal - one of the prominent cities of the Harappan civilization - is known for the discovery of the oldest man-made dockyard. A maritime heritage complex in Lothal is going to be a fitting tribute to the city’s historical legacy and heritage. It will have several innovative and unique features such as Lothal mini recreation to recreate Harappan architecture and lifestyle and 4 theme parks namely Memorial theme park, Maritime and Navy theme park, Climate theme park and Adventure and Amusement theme park. 90th INTERPOL General Assembly begins in New Delhi
The General Assembly is INTERPOL’s supreme governing body and meets once a year to take key decisions related to its functioning. The meeting - to be held from 18th to 21st October - will be attended by delegations from 195 INTERPOL member countries comprising of Ministers, Police Chiefs of countries, Heads of National Central Bureaus and Senior police officers. INTERPOL General Assembly is taking place in India after a gap of about 25 years – it was last held in 1997.
India’s biggest-ever defence exhibition - DefExpo 2022 – begins in Gandhinagar, Gujarat
India sees the exhibition as an opportunity to promote and market our defence products to participating countries. The India-Africa Defence Dialogue (IADD) and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR)-plus conclave is also being organized on the sidelines of DefExpo 2022. Defence Minister of 33 countries along with 10 Indian states and Union territories are participating in this exhibition. This is the 12th edition of the DefExpo which will be held between October 18-22, 2022. The theme of DefExpo 2022 is ‘Path to Pride’. Raksha Mantri Awards for Excellence in Defence Manufacturing will also be distributed for the first time during DefExpo.
