MIM (or Master's in Management), a lately popular notion, has also raised a slew of problems that need to be addressed. The most important - both MIM and MBA are management degrees, so what's the difference?
Also, most importantly, which one is better?
The essence of the matter is that both degrees are good in their own right; the choice between them is determined by the stage of your career and your long-term goals. Thus, before addressing the question of whether MIM or MBA is superior, it is necessary to understand the differences between the two.

What are the differences between MIM and MBA?
The main differences between a Master's in Management (MIM) and an MBA are based on ten critical characteristics. Let's take a closer look at them.
1. Work Experience Required
A MIM requires 0-1 years of full-time job experience, but an MBA requires 3-8 years of work experience. As a result, the average age of a MIM student (22-24 years) is substantially younger than that of an average MBA applicant (25-31 years). A bachelor's degree in management is not required in either situation.
2. Eligibility
Both programs require the same amount of effort (GMAT/GRE, IELTS/TOEFL, SOP, LOR, Essays). If your GMAT/GRE score is not up to par in both circumstances, extraordinary extra-curricular activities in the case of MIM and exceptional job experience in the case of MBA may suffice.
3. Duration
Most MBA programs are tentatively scheduled to take two years (some are scheduled to last 12-18 months), while MIM programs are normally scheduled to last 12-18 months.
4. Origin
MIM is a two-decade-old notion that began in Europe. Why is Europe important? Because the majority of students in Europe continue their education after obtaining their undergraduate degrees. Historically, students in Europe, unlike in other areas of the world, do not enter the workforce before completing a Master's degree, which is why a MIM fits so well into the European system. MBA, on the other hand, began in the United States in the early 1900s and has since spread throughout the world.

5. Recognition
The issue of recognition does not arise in the case of an MBA because it is a globally recognized degree. MIM is unquestionably acknowledged across Europe, with European countries currently offering 85% of all MIM courses. Although not as well-known as an MBA, it is quickly gaining traction in businesses in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and India. Is it already complete? No, not yet. To increase its value, people seek to gain job experience in Europe before returning to their native nation. They will not only have a MIM degree, but they will also have foreign work experience.
6. Curriculum
MIM is more theoretical in nature (as is any master's degree), whereas MBA emphasizes experiential learning, case studies, and real projects to expose students to many aspects of management. This is also true for MIM; however, MIM or M.Sc. with specialized specialization focuses on niche fields such as international business, financial analysis, accounting, and so on, and can be research intensive.
7. Purpose
Students who need to finish their education without taking a break or students who want to change courses and gain managerial experience would benefit from a MIM. An MBA degree is pursued by professionals who want to advance in their careers, undergo transformation/career shift, or are salary-saturated.
8. Job Prospects
MIM prepares students for positions such as associate consultant, junior analyst, and entry-level positions in Advertising Management, Development Management, General Operations, Human Resources Management, Public Relations Management, Sales, and Marketing Management. An MBA, on the other hand, will be able to obtain mid-level and senior roles in the same industries. For example, whereas a MIM graduate will begin as an associate consultant, an MBA will begin as a consultant. After 2-3 years of work experience, a MIM graduate will be able to secure a consultant post.
9. Tuition Fee Involved
Tuition fees will differ from country to country and from university to university. However, the tuition expense involved in the case of MIM is nearly half that of an MBA program.
10. Return on Investment
If spoken truthfully, the return on investment will be the same in the end. The reason for this is because the cost of MIM is far lower than the tuition charge for an MBA. Having said that, an MBA's starting salary is more than that of a MIM graduate.
Now let's consider a few myths and answer some often asked questions about MIM vs. MBA.
Master's in Management (MIM) or MBA Overseas: Which Degree Should You Choose?
As I previously stated, there is no objective solution, and your decision will be based on your career goals and priorities. So, let's further consider possible instances, which might help us answer the question better:
Who should go for MIM?
If you want to finish your studies before entering the workforce.
If your undergraduate degree is not assisting you in obtaining the type of profile you desire and/or is not adding to your qualifications. In this scenario, graduating from a top-tier MIM institution increases the value of your brand.
If you want to pursue a job in management right after graduation, you should do so. For example, an engineering student who realizes that engineering was a mistake and that management would have been a better choice and desires to change courses immediately after graduation can choose a MIM program.
Who should go for an MBA?
If you have extensive (at least three years) managerial work experience and feel oversaturated in terms of compensation and profile.
If you have (at least) three years of work experience in another industry and want to change careers or take on a managerial position in the same field.
Another popular path that students are taking right now is a MIM followed by an MBA. Typically, such students work for 3-7 years after receiving their master's degree in management and then pursue an MBA. Remember that whether you pursue a MIM or an MBA, your investment will be rewarded only if you get admitted to top-tier universities. And, in either case, you'll need an extraordinarily strong profile, so keep it at the forefront of your admissions strategy.
