India celebrates the 73rd independence day on August 15, 2019. Many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives. Students can learn lessons from the struggle.

India is going to celebrate the 73rd year of Independence with great joy and pride. Just like every year, the Indian flag will be hoisted by the Prime Minister followed by his speech. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a New India by the year 2022, and how we must strike out corruption and communalism from the country. The educational institutions across the country celebrated the day with hoisting of the flags, conducting march past and performing cultural shows, showing unity and diversity.

With seven decades gone, we must always remember that all the celebrations of today are only because of the thousands of people who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence.

Right from 1857 when the first war for independence began to almost hundred years later when Jawaharlal Nehru made the famous speech 'Tryst with Destiny' as India became independent.

Happy Independence Day

"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom."

Today the country sees development in many forms. Technology and infrastructure has transformed. The way we communicate has transformed. There are more opportunities. Indians are representative in many fields on global level.

At the same time we see problems, discrimination, crime and violence. It is in the hands of the leaders of tomorrow to make changes. Our tryst with destiny may have ended with the British leaving our country to us, but there are many trysts that we come across.

The students of today, thus should understand the importance of commemoration of Independence day and how they can make changes in the world, for coming future.

Understand Your Worth

As students you may think that your job is only to study and get good grades. But you are more than just that. Ask yourself what you can do. Understand what you are good at and practice your level best to be perfect in it.

The country stands on efforts of many such people who put aside normal expectations and decided to know their own worth and used their knowledge to change the history.

Don't Be Scared

Being a student can be scary. There are teachers, principals, your parents, sometimes your peers and most importantly, expectations that all of them have from you. At times when you are expected to score good marks, or when you are expected to do task and if you feel scared, take a deep breath.

Think about how you would feel if the whole ordeal gets over. You wouldn't even think of it after few days. That feeling, is you knowing that these things are just tasks, and you have what it takes to face them.

Just focus on what you are supposed to do and don't think about what others are saying or will say.

If the freedom fighters were scared, do you think we would have the liberty that we enjoy today?

Be Focused

Whatever you have taken up, complete. Whether its football, ballet or getting straight A's in all your subjects. Don't pressurize yourself too much, but be focused. Practice meditation and take a walk in the evening. Don;t keep thinking about what you are supposed to do, that can make you stress out. But when you are doing a specific task keep complete focus on it.

The freedom fighters never let any distraction cause them to shift away from their goal. They lived and died for one sole reason, to see the country free.

Talk To Your Close Ones

We only hear about the great feats and speeches of the freedom fighters, and seldom do we get to study their private lives. Gandhi had full support of Kasturba throughout the struggle.

And many families and friends supported the ones who moved up front. This was because they let their friends and families come closer to what they were envisioning.

You parents and friends need a lace in your life, no matter how busy you are with your studies or other activities. Their happiness will always be in how happy you are.

Ease Up Sometimes

Sure the Freedom Fighters always had something to think of and take care of, but as humans, even they would have retired at times.

The previous point about family and friends would help you here. Don't take things too hard all the time.

Once in a while its okay if you ease up and rest. If the struggle for independence saw strong numbered protests and violence, it also saw great friendships being formed.

So while at your favorite competition, or a performance for school programe, or while preparing for examinations, take some time off and make memories.

The struggle for freedom is still respected and remembered, and though its been seven decades, the freedom fighters will always be remembered for their noble deeds.

What we the pillars of the future should remember is that we should learn a thing or two from these legends.
