In a significant move to support Sanskrit education, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced the removal of the income cap for scholarships in over 500 Sanskrit schools across the state. This decision, made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will benefit a large number of students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi shared that the scholarship amounts for students in classes 9 to 12 will be increased, with the new monthly scholarships ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 200. Recognizing that many students studying Sanskrit come from underprivileged families, the government has also extended scholarship benefits to students in Prathama (classes 6, 7, and 8) under the Sanskrit education system.
For students in classes 6 and 7, a monthly scholarship of Rs 50 will now be provided, while those in class 8 will receive Rs 75 per month. Previously, students in Purva Madhyama (classes 9 and 10) were given Rs 50 monthly, and those in Uttar Madhyama (classes 11 and 12) received Rs 80. Under the new scheme, students in classes 9 and 10 will now receive Rs 100 per month, and those in classes 11 and 12 will get Rs 200.
In a key change, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced the removal of the income limit for scholarship eligibility. This decision opens up scholarship opportunities to all students, regardless of their family's annual income. Currently, there are 517 Sanskrit schools in Uttar Pradesh, with a total of 1,21,573 students enrolled.
The cabinet meeting also addressed other significant issues. Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh revealed that tourist houses facing losses or nearing closure will be handed over to private management for an initial period of 15 years, with an option for a 15-year extension. This move aims to improve facilities for tourists and boost the state's tourism sector.
Overall, the cabinet approved thirteen proposals during the meeting, demonstrating the government's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and tourism infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. These initiatives are designed to ease financial barriers for students pursuing Sanskrit education, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed. At the same time, the government is taking steps to revitalize the state's tourism sector by bringing in better management practices to improve services and facilities.
