Every year, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) provides scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships may cover college fees or be given as direct payments to students' bank accounts. Various types of scholarships are offered at IIT Guwahati, including Institute Scholarships, SC-ST Scholarships, and scholarships from external organizations.

Institute Scholarships:
IIT Guwahati offers two main types of scholarships: the Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS) and the Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM) scholarship. The IMS is given to top students in each year of all disciplines during their second year, providing a waiver of tuition fees and a fixed monthly stipend for eight months. To be eligible, students must have completed semesters without interruption, passed all courses in those semesters, and achieved the highest yearly performance index (YPI). On the other hand, the McM scholarship is awarded based on both merit and financial need, offering similar benefits to the IMS. Eligibility criteria for McM include parents' income below a certain threshold, not graduating from high-fee schools, and maintaining a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI).
SC-ST Scholarships:
Additionally, students must maintain a minimum attendance of 75% and display satisfactory academic performance to continue receiving the benefits. This scholarship aims to support students from SC/ST backgrounds in pursuing their education without financial constraints, ensuring they have equal opportunities for success in their academic endeavors. By providing these financial aids, the institute aims to promote diversity and inclusivity among its student body, creating a supportive environment for all individuals to thrive and excel in their chosen fields of study.
Other Scholarships:
IIT Guwahati allows students to avail of scholarships awarded by external government or non-government organizations as long as they do not conflict with institute rules. The institute may also accept donations from individuals and organizations to establish scholarships following prescribed procedures. One such example is the Indian Women's Association, Bonn (IWAB) Scholarship for first-year undergraduate girl students. Eligibility criteria for this scholarship include a minimum SPI of the first semester and consideration of both merit-cum-means.
The application, awarding, and disbursement processes for these scholarships differ. For McM and IWAB scholarships, notifications are provided through email, website, and notice board; applications must be submitted within a specific time frame. In contrast, IMS scholarships do not require an application since year-wise topper lists are obtained from the Academic Section. The scholarship committee verifies and reviews applications with input from the academic section before the director approves the list of students for scholarships. Awards are announced in specific months and disbursed by the finance and account section after clearance from the Student's Affairs section.
IIT Guwahati's scholarships aim to promote academic excellence while supporting deserving students' growth and development.
By alleviating financial burdens, these scholarships provide opportunities for students to pursue their education without hindrance.
