Not even a single Indian university has made it to top 200 of the World University Rankings 2015-16, according to the survey conducted by the Times Higher Education.
However, 17 universities from the country have been ranked among 800 varsities across the world.
The rank list unveils that IISc is placed between 251 and 300 while IIT-B is ranked between 351 and 400.
6 IITs among 600 universities
Among top 600 universities in the world, 6 IITs namely - Delhi, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati, Kanpur and Roorkee from the country have been made it to the list, whereas Jadavapur university and Panjab University are ranked in the other Indian universities list.
Other Indian universities in top 800
Other Indian universities identified between 601 and 800 are: Aligarh Muslim University, Amrita University, Andhra University, Birla Institutes of Technology and Sciences in Pilani, University of Calcutta, University of Delhi and Savitribai Phule Pune University.
In the world-wide ranking California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is the best-rated and featured as the world's number one university, which was followed by University of Oxford in second place and Stanford University in third place; University of Cambridge ranked at the fourth place while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University were listed at fifth and sixth respectively.
The ranking had been awarded to universities based on 13 parameters relevant to students such as faculty-student ratio, university's global reputation, its total resources, international mix on campus, its links to business and research excellence.
