Will Bangalore’s Weather Make You Reach for a Sweater or an Umbrella Today?

Bangaloreans are in a dilemma: should they grab a cozy sweater for the chilly breeze or an umbrella to brace for the rain? The city, still feeling the ripple effects of Cyclone Fanjal, is under a new spell of unpredictable weather. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts more rainfall in Bangalore and nearby districts over the next two days, keeping residents on their toes.

Is Bangalore’s Weather a Rollercoaster?

Cooler Days, Rainy Nights

Cyclone Fanjal, which made landfall in Chennai, has left its mark on Bangalore's weather patterns. The city's temperature has dipped, hovering between a chilly 16°C and a mild 28°C. Sporadic rain showers and bursts of sunshine punctuate the days, intensifying the cold wave gripping the region.

The IMD attributes these fluctuations to a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal. Moist winds from this system are fueling the rains across Karnataka, with Bangalore and districts like Chitradurga, Kolar, and Ramnagar experiencing moderate to heavy showers.

Yellow Alert: Prepare for More Rain

A yellow alert has been issued for Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, and several other districts in South Karnataka. Coastal areas, including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, are expected to face even heavier rains until December 14, 2025.

IMD scientist GS Patil commented, "Moist winds generated by cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal are causing rain across Karnataka. We expect moderate to heavy rains in the coming days, especially in the coastal and southern areas of the state."

Staying Safe Amid Unpredictable Weather

The extended rain alert from December 11 to December 13 serves as a precautionary measure, urging residents to stay prepared. Whether it's a sweater for the chill or an umbrella for the rain, the message is clear: vigilance is key.

As Bangalore continues to navigate this weather rollercoaster, the focus remains on staying informed. Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on updates from the IMD and take necessary measures to weather the storm-literally. While Cyclone Fanjal has passed, its lingering effects remind us of the power and unpredictability of nature.
