The Union Public Service Commission has released the examination schedule of the Civil Services main examination for the 2016 recruitment session. The civil services mains will be held from December 3, 2016 to December 9, 2016.
Candidates who have cleared the preliminary examination held on August 7, 2016 will be qualified to take up the main examination. The results of the Civil services prelims 2016 examination were declared on September 17, 2016. Read the complete details here.
Cracking the UPSC exams and interview with ease
Candidates who qualify the main examination will be called for a personal interview round. The final choice of candidates will be made based on their score in the main examination and the interview round.
The examination will be held from December 3, 2016 to December 9, 2016 and will be held in 2 sessions. [Check UPSC 2017 Exam Calendar]

Examination will be not be conducted on December 4 (Sunday) and December 8 (Thursday).
On December 3, 2016, the first paper 'Essay' will be held in the morning session; General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II will be held on December 5, 2016 in the morning and the afternoon sessions respectively. General Studies Paper III and IV will be conducted on December 6, 2016.
Indian language paper will be held in the morning session on December 7, while the exam for English is scheduled for the afternoon session.
The commission will hold the exam for the optional paper chosen by a candidate on December 9. Optional Paper I is scheduled for the morning session and Paper II for the afternoon.
