After six days of persistent protests, students have triumphed as the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) announced changes to the 2024 Provincial Civil Services (PCS) Preliminary Examination schedule. Initially set for December 7 and 8, the PCS exam will now be conducted on December 22 in two shifts, fulfilling the students' primary demand for a single-day examination format.

The protests, which began on November 11, saw thousands of aspirants gather at the UPPSC office, voicing concerns about logistical challenges posed by the separate scheduling of the PCS, Review Officer (RO), and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams. The demand was clear: streamline the schedule to ensure fairness and ease of preparation.
What's Changing?
Under the revised plan, the PCS Preliminary Exam will take place on December 22, with two sessions:
- Morning Session: 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
- Afternoon Session: 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Meanwhile, the RO and ARO exams, initially set for December 22 and 23, will be rescheduled. A committee has been formed to review these dates, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.
Voices from the Protest
Student leader Pankaj Pandey declared the protest officially over, stating, "The government has accepted one demand, and 90% of our second demand is on track. The committee's review will finalize the rest." Pandey urged fellow students to return home and focus on their studies, expressing optimism about similar adjustments for the RO and ARO exams.
This development highlights the impact of student advocacy. The UPPSC's decision demonstrates a commitment to addressing candidates' concerns, setting a precedent for responsiveness and fairness in academic administration.
What's Next?
As students turn their attention back to preparation, all eyes are now on the committee's report. Aspirants remain hopeful that the upcoming RO and ARO exam schedules will align seamlessly with the revised PCS format, making this a win-win situation for all parties involved.
This episode underscores the power of collective action and the importance of dialogue between students and institutions, ensuring a smoother path for future examinations.
