On March 27, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), announced that registrations for the June session of the 2024 National Eligibility Test (NET) exam are likely to commence next week, specifically during the first week of April.

The NET is a biannual examination conducted twice a year, in June and December. This examination enables individuals holding Master's degrees to qualify as assistant professors at various higher education institutions and also serves as a means to evaluate merit for the Junior Research Fellowships.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will facilitate the UGC NET June 2024 application process on its official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in. The examination will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode for 83 subjects.
Eligibility for assistant professorship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) will be determined based on the aggregate score obtained by candidates in both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates who qualify only for assistant professorship are not considered eligible for the JRF award.
Regarding application fees, candidates from the general category will be required to pay a registration fee of Rs 1,150, while those from the general-EWS and OBC-NCL categories will need to deposit Rs 600. SC, ST, PwD, and transgender candidates will have to pay Rs 325. In the UGC NET December 2023 session, a total of 9,45,872 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 6,95,928 candidates appeared in 292 exam cities.
