UGC NET 2024: Disaster Management Introduced as a New Subject From December 2024, Check Syllabus and More Here

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has added Disaster Management as a subject in the UGC-NET December 2024 exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC-NET twice a year, in June and December. This decision was made during the UGC's 580th meeting on May 15, 2024, following recommendations from an expert committee.

Dr. D.P. Singh, Chairman of the UGC, stated, "The inclusion of disaster management in the UGC-NET exam syllabus is a significant step towards building a robust disaster management framework in the country."

This addition aims to enhance knowledge and capacity in disaster management among aspiring academics and researchers. It reflects the increasing importance of disaster preparedness and response in today's world. By including this subject in the UGC-NET exam, the UGC is emphasizing the significance of understanding and addressing disasters effectively in various academic disciplines. New Subject Overview:

Starting from December 2024, Disaster Management will be included as a new subject in the UGC-NET exam. The syllabus will include the following topics:

  • Introduction to Disaster Management
  • Research Methodology for Disaster Management
  • Legal Framework, Policies, and Governance
  • Society, Development, and Disasters
  • Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management
  • Health and Disasters
  • Environment, Ecology, and Climate Change Aspects
  • Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems
  • Information & Communications Technology and Emerging Technologies
  • Emergency Response and Management

The exam consists of two papers conducted in multiple sessions. Paper I evaluates the General Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, Comprehension, and General Awareness of the candidate. Paper II assesses the subject-specific knowledge and expertise of the candidate. The successful candidates are awarded Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) for pursuing research and are also eligible for Assistant Professorships. Candidates who qualify only for Assistant Professorships based on their performance are not considered for JRF positions. This exam is a crucial step for individuals seeking opportunities in the field of research and academia.

Candidates should ensure they meet the specific criteria set by each institution to be eligible for an Assistant Professorship position. This may include academic qualifications, teaching experience, and research publications.
