Top 10 Engineering Colleges Formulated by NIRF and Released by MHRD

Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has released the India Rankings 2017 of National Institutional Ranking Framework - NIRF today. The rankings is conducted by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) as a system for Indian universities based on various parameters. It was introduced in 2016.

Here are top 10 engineering colleges as per the NIRF rankings. As per reports, the ranking is done with parameters such as teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) established in 1959, is one among the foremost institutes of national importance in higher technological education, basic and applied research.

IIT Madras is a residential institute with nearly 460 faculty, 4500 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff and is a self-contained campus located in a beautiful wooded land of about 250 hectares. It has established itself as a premier centre for teaching, research and industrial consultancy in the country.

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

According to IIT Bombay official website, IIT B strives to reach out beyond its student community to the larger society that exists beyond its walls. This reflects the institute's inherent philosophy - to teach what we know and share what we have.

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT-K), Kharagpur was established in 1950 at Hijli. The Institute started its journey in the old Hijli Detention Camp where some of the great freedom fighters toiled and sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) established in 1961. IIT Delhi is one of the seven IITs created as centres of excellence for higher training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur established in 1960. IIT Kanpur is one of the premier institutions established by the Government of India. The aim of the Institute is to provide meaningful education, to conduct original research of the highest standard and to provide leadership in technological innovation for the industrial growth of the country.

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT R), Roorkee established in 1847. IIT Roorkee is among the foremost of institutes of national importance in higher technological education and in engineering, basic and applied research.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) was established in 1994. It is one of the sixth member of IIT fraternity and the academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced from 1995. The college is affiliated to be a Deemed University and accredited / approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Anna University

Anna University, Chennai was established in 1978. It offers higher education in engineering, technology and allied sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.


Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University (JU), Kolkata was established in 1955. The programmes are directed towards achieving excellence in education and extending the benefits of improved technology to the society as a whole.

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad, IITH) is an engineering and research institution that is situated in Sangareddy district, Telangana, India. IIT Hyderabad is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012.
