Telangana Declares Rain Holidays: Hyderabad & Warangal Schools to Remain Shut Partially or Fully

The Telangana government has declared a half-day holiday in Hyderabad and a full-day holiday in Warangal on August 13 and 14, 2025, due to the forecast of heavy rainfall in the region.

Telangana Declares Rain Holidays on August 13 & 14

The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and employees, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for intense rain, possible waterlogging, and traffic disruptions. Schools, colleges, and certain offices will remain closed or operate for limited hours depending on the district.

Telangana Rain Alert: Half-Day Holiday in Hyderabad, Full Holiday in Warangal on Aug 13-14, 2025

The state government of Telangana has announced special holiday measures in view of the heavy rainfall forecast for August 13 and 14, 2025. As per the official notification, Hyderabad will observe a half-day holiday, while Warangal will have a full-day holiday on both days. This precautionary step has been taken after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning predicting continuous and heavy downpours in several districts of Telangana.

The IMD has cautioned that the weather conditions could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, and potential disruptions in essential services. The forecast also indicates the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in some regions.

Impact on Educational Institutions and Offices:

In Hyderabad, educational institutions will function only for half a day during the declared period, allowing students and staff to return home before the onset of intense afternoon rainfall. In Warangal, schools and colleges will remain completely closed to prevent any inconvenience or safety hazards. The directive applies to government, aided, and private institutions.

Public Safety Measures:

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak rainfall hours. Disaster management teams and municipal bodies have been placed on alert to handle emergencies, clear waterlogged areas, and ensure the smooth functioning of drainage systems. Public transport services, including TSRTC buses, have been instructed to plan schedules considering road safety conditions.

Reasons for the Decision:

The decision comes after several days of intermittent rainfall across Telangana, which has already saturated the soil and filled local water bodies to near capacity. With more rain expected, the risk of flooding, landslides in hilly areas, and damage to infrastructure has increased. The government has therefore chosen to minimize public movement and gatherings during the forecasted heavy rainfall period.

Precautionary Advice:

  • Citizens are urged to stay indoors as much as possible.
  • Avoid venturing into flooded roads or attempting to cross swollen streams.
  • Keep emergency supplies like drinking water, torchlights, and first-aid kits handy.
  • Follow updates from official government channels and local news for further announcements.

The Telangana government's proactive approach in declaring partial and full holidays demonstrates its commitment to public safety and disaster preparedness. While the rain is beneficial for agriculture, the priority remains on ensuring minimal disruption to daily life and preventing rain-related accidents or mishaps.

With heavy rain alerts still in place, residents are encouraged to remain cautious and cooperate with the administration's advisories over the coming days.
