Symbiosis International University refuses to scrap FYUP

SIU denies to scrap FYUP

Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune has refused to follow the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive to scrap the Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUP).

SIU has written a letter to UGC that "We desire to continue with the FYUP".

According to the SIU officials, the varsity conducts many three year courses. The FYUP course was introduced 4 years back to in its School of Liberal Arts to help the students who aspire to pursue their higher studies in United States (US).

The varsity's FYUP has 42 electives and 18 majors. Students are allowed to choose any of the electives which they are interested in. Moreover, in the fourth year, students are involved in research-based and other projects, dissertations as well as seminars.

Earlier, UG had directed the SIU, IISc Bangalore and Shiv Nadar University to scrap the FYUP conducted by these universities.

Later, UGC has allowed IISc Bangalore to continue with their 4-year BS degree course.

UGC yet to respond to the SIU's letter on their decision not to scrap the FYUP.
