IISc, Bangalore to continue 4-year BS programme

University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi has allowed the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore to continue 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme.

Earlier, UGC had asked IISc to drop this 4-year programme. The IISc had sent a detailed clarification regarding its programme seeking review of the UGC's decision.

UGC has now decided to continue the course and has made some changes in it. The candidates who complete three years of this programme, will be granted B.Sc degree course and B.Sc research degree will be awarded after the completion of the 4th year of the programme.

IISc Director Anurag Kumar said, ""The students are actually happier. It will now be called BSc. The IISc had also proposed a change in the nomenclature and scheme of the programmes, making it a three-year course for BSc degree and four-year BSc research degree."
