The Karnataka government has announced a three-day state mourning following the death of veteran politician and former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna. As a mark of respect, the state has declared December 11, 2024, a public holiday for all government offices, schools, and colleges. This gesture reflects the deep admiration for Krishna's immense contributions to the state's political and social issues.

S.M. Krishna, who passed away at the age of 92 early on December 10, was a prominent figure in Karnataka's political history. He had been battling a prolonged illness before his death at his residence. In his honor, his last rites will be performed with full state honors on December 11 at his native village of Somanahalli in Mandya district.
During the three-day state mourning, from December 10 to 12, all official entertainment programs will be suspended, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast across government buildings. The mourning period marks the loss of one of Karnataka's most distinguished leaders, whose vision and leadership shaped the state's growth during his tenure as Chief Minister.
S.M. Krishna's contributions to Karnataka and India extend far beyond his time in office. His pioneering leadership shaped the state's trajectory in the modern era, with lasting effects seen in infrastructure, global outreach, and the promotion of social harmony. As the state mourns his loss, it also celebrates the legacy of a leader who devoted his life to public service and the betterment of his people. His passing marks the end of an era in Karnataka's politics, but his influence will continue to guide future leaders and inspire generations to come.
