Rajasthan Govt's New Initiative: MBBS Courses to be Offered in Hindi

Rajasthan government has decided to introduce medical education in Hindi alongside English. Announced on Hindi Diwas, September 14, this initiative is set to revolutionize how medical courses are taught in the state. Following this trend, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have also revealed plans to offer MBBS courses in Hindi.

Rajasthan to Introduce MBBS Courses in Hindi

Starting with the 2024-2025 academic year, students at Sampurnanand Medical College in Jodhpur and Medical College in Barmer, both affiliated with Marwar Medical University, will have the option to study in Hindi. Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, emphasized that choosing Hindi for MBBS studies will be optional for students.

In Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that MBBS courses will be available in Hindi from the current academic session. This decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to provide medical education in Hindi, a vision he shared during a 2022 rally in Uttar Pradesh.

Sai highlighted that the introduction of Hindi into medical curricula was part of a broader effort on Hindi Diwas. "Starting this academic year, MBBS courses will be taught in Hindi, with new textbooks and study materials being introduced," he told local reporters. The health department has been tasked with preparing these resources. Rajasthan's budget plan also included provisions for this bilingual approach to medical education, aiming to make the field more accessible to Hindi-speaking students. This initiative reflects a growing trend across India to integrate regional languages into higher education.

The inclusion of Hindi in medical education represents a significant shift towards making professional studies more inclusive. By offering courses in both Hindi and English, these states are addressing language barriers that can hinder learning. This move is expected to enhance comprehension for students who are more comfortable with Hindi. The phased rollout allows institutions time to develop appropriate resources and training materials, ensuring that educational standards are maintained. This approach ensures that students receive quality education while benefiting from the use of their native language.

Overall, this initiative highlights a progressive step towards inclusive education, recognizing the value of regional languages in professional training. It underscores a commitment to expanding access and improving the learning experience for a diverse student population.
