Palghar Schools, Colleges Closed on July 8 Due to Heavy Rain; District Declares Holiday

The Palghar district administration has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, and anganwadi centres on July 8, 2026, in view of the continuing heavy rainfall and the latest weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department. The precautionary decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff as the district continues to experience adverse monsoon conditions.

Palghar Declares School and College Holiday

Palghar Schools, Colleges Closed on July 8 Due to Heavy Rain

According to the IMD's weather forecast issued on July 7, 2026, Palghar is expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places. The district has already witnessed persistent rain since July 4, leading to waterlogging, disrupted traffic, and difficult commuting conditions in several areas. Considering the possibility of further rainfall, the administration decided to suspend academic activities for a day.

The holiday order applies to all educational institutions across the district, including:

  • Anganwadi centres
  • Government primary schools
  • Private primary schools
  • Government secondary schools
  • Private secondary schools
  • Zilla Parishad schools
  • Municipal schools
  • Aided and unaided schools
  • Ashram schools
  • Colleges
  • Vocational and training institutes

The district administration stated that the decision was taken after assessing the prevailing weather conditions and the potential risks associated with student travel during heavy rainfall.

According to the official notification, the District Collector exercised powers under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. As the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, the District Collector is authorized to declare school holidays during emergencies to protect public safety.

Officials noted that continuous rainfall over the past several days has resulted in waterlogging and other weather-related challenges across Palghar. Since road conditions remain affected and additional rainfall is expected, authorities considered it unsafe for students to travel to educational institutions.

Parents have been advised not to send their children to schools or colleges on July 8 and to follow official updates issued by the district administration and educational institutions regarding further announcements. Schools and colleges are expected to communicate any changes to academic schedules or classes after normal conditions are restored.

Meanwhile, local authorities continue to monitor the weather situation closely and remain prepared to respond to any emergencies caused by the ongoing monsoon. Residents have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas, until weather conditions improve.

The temporary closure reflects the administration's commitment to prioritizing student safety during severe weather. Any further decisions regarding educational institutions will depend on updated IMD forecasts and the overall weather situation in Palghar district.
