Over 4,000 Chhattisgarh schools have no toilets: Minister

Raipur, March 24: The Chhattisgarh government informed the Assembly today that more than 4,000 government schools did not have toilets as on February 19 this year.

In a written reply to the question raised by Congress legislator Brihaspat Singh, Tribal Development Minister Kedar Kashyap said, "Toilets were not constructed in as many as 4,068 government schools, including 2,821 primary, 761 middle schools as well as 486 higher secondary schools, as of February 19, 2015".

"It is not possible to give any deadline about when construction of toilets will be completed in schools which lack such a facility", Kashyap said.

As per statistics, the highest number of government schools with no toilet facility is in Balodabazar district which has 667 such schools, followed by Jashpur (422 schools), Surajpur (396 schools), Jagdalpur (338 schools), Gariyaband (288 schools), Bijapur (288 schools), Sukma (228 schools), Ramanujganj (178 schools), Kabeerdham (167 schools), Dantewada (164 schools), Kanker (124 schools), Koriya (121 schools), Ambikapur (119 schools), he said.

Other districts with schools which have no toilets are Korba (26 schools), Janjgir (33 schools), Bilaspur (27 schools), Mungeli (90 schools), Rajnandgaon (28 schools), Bemetara (54 schools), Dhamtari (81 schools) and Kondagaon (42 schools), he said.
